January Women’s Marches and Events
Here’s a guide to marches and events going on around the state during the weekend of January 20 & 21–and beyond!
The Respect Rally Park City will take place on Saturday, January 20th from 10am – 11:30am at the City Park. Planned Parenthood is a sponsor and will be there handing out pink swag. The organizers are looking for volunteers to help with multiple tasks. Sign up to volunteer here!
The Logan Women’s March will happen Saturday, January 20th from 2:30pm – 4:30pm on Main Street. The Utah State Students for Choice Club and one of Planned Parenthood Association of Utah’s Board Members will be there handing out “I Stand With PP” swag.
Also happening in Logan on Saturday, February 3rd is the 31st Annual Chocolate Festival. This sweet festival has a new, bigger home this year and will take place at the Riverwoods Conference Center from 6:30pm – 9:30pm.
The Women’s March 2018 – Northern Utah will happen Saturday, January 20th from 12pm – 1:30pm starting at Ogden’s Municipal Gardens. Weber State Students for Choice Club members will be there to hand out posters and tees.
That night, the 2nd Annual ‘Improv for Planned Parenthood’ will take place at the Comedy Loft. Weber State’s Students for Choice President will start the night off with her “Why I stand with Planned Parenthood” story followed by a show full of talented comedians–with all proceeds benefiting Planned Parenthood.
While not technically in Utah, a bunch of our fellow Utahns are heading south for the Women’s March Anniversary: Power to the Polls in Vegas. Planned Parenthood Federation of America President and CEO, Cecile Richards will be in attendance along with members of our very own Birds and the Beehive Ambassador group.
While researching local Women’s Marches happening in January, Planned Parenthood Association of Utah’s Public Affairs team became aware of a Salt Lake march planned in direct opposition to the mission of Planned Parenthood and the National Women’s Marches.
A “March for Life” from Washington Square to the State Capitol will take place the morning of Saturday, January 20th. National March for Life has purposefully planned these marches across the country on or around the anniversary of last year’s monumental Women’s Marches in an attempt to distract and confuse people looking to join pro-women marches.
Planned Parenthood practices and encourages a non-engagement policy when dealing with this type of opposition to reproductive freedom. We are asking that our Ambassadors and supporters focus their energy on showing up big time for the Park City, Logan, Ogden, and Las Vegas events happening that weekend instead of counter protesting.
Rather than adding to the turnout of the anti-choice march, let the media see where Utahans’ support really lies—with Planned Parenthood and with reproductive freedom.
Tickets for the annual Roe v. Wade Anniversary Celebration are on sale now! This year, we will enjoy ‘Remarkably Normal: Abortion Stories from the 1in3 Campaign’ at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center on February 2nd. Buy tickets here!
