Planned Parenthood of Utah Will Not Be Silenced
As you may have heard in the news, the Trump administration’s domestic “gag rule”—attached to the national family planning program (Title X) funding— will be enforced by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Planned Parenthood Association of Utah will not be silenced. We refuse to let the Trump administration tell our health care providers what information they can or can’t give to patients. Planned Parenthood depends on best medical practices to guide our health care, not politicians. We will continue to provide patients with unbiased and compassionate care, information, and options, including the option to terminate their pregnancy, and let our patients make their own decisions with all the information.
As you know, Planned Parenthood in Utah has been the sole direct grantee of Title X funding for decades. We are experts in providing specialized comprehensive health care to men, women, and young people. Planned Parenthood provides affordable birth control, cancer screenings, and STD testing and treatment to over 37,000 Utahns every year using Title X funds.
There is no other statewide reproductive health care provider in Utah to step in. We are one of the states that will be hit the hardest as Planned Parenthood and other health care providers refuse to comply with the unethical rule. The Trump administration created the gag rule as a political move, but the result will be that Utah women and families will pay the cost. Planned Parenthood has set aside funding (in anticipation of a situation like this) to continue to provide subsidized care for as long as possible. We must continue to fight the unprecedented gag rule to ultimately get the rule reversed.
Our doors are open. We will continue to provide the care that our patients need and that Utahns look to Planned Parenthood for. Our advocacy arm will continue to fight in court to block the gag rule.
What is there to do? We need to make a change on both the national and local front, and we need your help to get there.
1) Register to vote. Ask your friends and family to register to vote. Voterise can set you up with a kit to register your friends and neighbors.
2) Sign up for our volunteer training on August 10th and get ready to volunteer for Planned Parenthood Action Council as we gear up for Election 2020.
3) Call your members of Congress and tell them you support Planned Parenthood as the provider of choice for reproductive health care in Utah and to vote in favor of any relevant legislation.
