The Truth About Abortion
As you know, Abortion Free Utah and their partners at Pro-Life Utah have mounted a campaign to lift up the false narrative that abortion is dangerous, that abortion is murder, and that women regret their decision to have an abortion. They argue that women need to be slowed down by Pro-Life Utah’s “sidewalk advocates”—who quite literally stand in the way of their access to health care. I need your help with educating your friends on the truth about abortion.
- The truth is that abortion is safe; carrying a pregnancy to term is much more “dangerous” (although, so worth the risk if and when you are ready to become a parent!).
- The truth is that abortion is legal, whereas committing murder is a first degree felony.
- The truth is that people take the time that they need to make the decision to end their pregnancy. We know from patients that they often have done the research and made their decision before they contact Planned Parenthood.
Not only can you educate your people, but you can also help us push back on their false narrative. When you see pieces like Ms. Tafengatoto’s in the paper, write a letter to the editor or submit a commentary, and share your experience at Planned Parenthood and your support of safe and legal abortion. Tell folks about your experience with protesters or “sidewalk advocates” if you’ve encountered them outside health centers. If you need help with writing a letter or OpEd, reach out to me at firstname.lastname@example.org, and I am happy to help!
