Trump’s new gag rule is bad–here’s how to fight it
Another attack on our healthcare
In its newest attack on women’s health and rights, the Trump administration has proposed a rule that would cut any health provider who performs abortions or refers patients to clinics that provide abortions out of Title X’s federal family planning money.
Karrie Galloway, CEO of Planned Parenthood Association of Utah, knows changes to Title X funding would be devestating for women in our state. In 2017, 80-percent of PPAU’s 45,000 patients relied on Title X to receive family planning services (also of note: Title X funding is never used for abortion services).
“To use the issue of abortion to cut off the women who use the national family planning program from getting their healthcare from experts to help them manage their reproductive healthcare seems crazy to me. This gag rule is not meant to hurt Planned Parenthood; it’s meant to hurt women.”
Our local members of congress need to hear from us. They need to hear stories like this–stories about affordable, quality care received at Planned Parenthood.
Here’s what to do:
- Make sure you are connected with your member of congress–Bishop, Stewart, Curtis, or Love.
“Like” them on Facebook, follow them on Twitter, and sign up for their newsletters. In the (unlikely) event they hold in-person town halls, show up.
- Tell them why you stand with Planned Parenthood.
Have you received no- or low-cost care at Planned Parenthood? Write, call, tag, or tweet at your representative to tell them your story and let them know how much it meant to have Planned Parenthood be there for you. (Psst: you can also share your story with us here.)
- Ask them to continue funding essential healthcare for Utah women.
For the last 30 years, Planned Parenthood Association of Utah has been the sole recipient of Utah’s Title X dollars. And for good reason: PPAU is Utah’s choice for family planning services.
More ways to take action
