Week Five of the 2019 Utah Legislative Session
During Week 5, our legislature passed Representative Lisonbee’s abortion ban, House Bill 166, and sent it on for Governor Herbert to sign. Instead of spending time on enhancing our lives, some of our legislators instead are focused on passing an abortion ban. We are confident that the abortion ban will never go into effect and will sit empty on the books.
As for the 18-week abortion ban, it is making its way through the legislature and passed out of the House this week and is waiting to be assigned to a committee in the Senate. In case you missed the debate on the House floor, Representative Brammer made clear why politicians, who don’t seem to grasp how pregnancy works, should leave the health care up to physicians.
One of our Ambassadors shared her experience having an abortion at 18 weeks. Women can be trusted to make decisions about their own pregnancy in consultation with the experts (physicians) and their family and faith. Period.
The voices of the Beehive were heard loud and clear at the Capitol on Friday afternoon. We are so grateful to everyone that showed up for this direct action.
